The Golf Brain Coach was founded from a shared passion for golf and deep expertise in the connection between psychology and peak performance.
It started with Johan, an avid amateur golfer and assistant in psychology, who quickly noticed that it wasn’t just technical skills holding players back — it was their mindset and anxieties. When Wiebeke, his wife and a licensed clinical psychologist with years of experience in guiding athletes and high performers, was invited to give a keynote on competition stress at Johan’s club, the connection with golf and the game was immediate. The positive response was overwhelming and revealed a powerful truth: golfers weren’t just battling the course — they were battling themselves.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Johan and Wiebeke seized the opportunity to fully commit to their mission of helping golfers master their anxieties on the course. They wrote the Dutch book Fit je mentale golfswing and created a unique coaching service that blends elite golf mental performance coaching with a deep, personal understanding of golf.
In 2020, golf became a true family affair, with their son Vince and daughter Liv competing in junior tournaments — further strengthening their connection to the sport on every level.
They started coaching and caddying in Belgium and The Netherlands under the name Encuentro, but as word spread, the coaching practice quickly grew internationally, reaching golfers across Europe, the UK, the USA, and South Africa.
This growth sparked the need for a new name and a broader vision — and so, The Golf Brain Coach was born.
Today, Johan and Wiebeke are proud to help golfers manage and conquer anxiety and mental obstacles, build lasting resilience, and unlock their enjoyment and full potential — both on and off the course.

“Wiebeke’s support in managing the anxiety and stress I typically experienced before and during competitions made a world of difference. She equipped me with practical tools I could apply both in practice and on the course. We worked through EMDR sessions, which were also incredibly helpful. Johan’s role as my caddie was equally essential — his guidance kept me calm throughout my rounds and made a big difference in my course management.
Together, they helped me improve my scores and boost my confidence, which went from a 2/10 to a 9/10 in just 9 months. I highly recommend working with them.”
