After just over a year of learning the game of golf, journalist Maaike Olde Olthof — content writer for the NGF (Dutch Golf Federation) and then playing HCP 51.5 — joined a golf mental performance clinic led by Wiebeke from The Golf Brain Coach.
She chose to capture the experience in her Golf.nl blog, Diary of a Beginner.
Maaike arrived that afternoon with a healthy dose of skepticism. A few people had even warned her beforehand: “Nonsense… that’s not for you. Mental coaching is for seasoned tour players, not beginners.”
But the day proved them wrong. What began as a cautious step into the world of the mental golf game quickly turned into a genuine breakthrough. Maaike left with renewed confidence, fresh insight into her game and decision-making, and the surprising sense that she might no longer be a “beginner”.
By the end of the clinic, those same people looked at her and said:
“Maaike, you’re really not a beginner anymore.”
Another added: “With a qualifying card, you’d have scored well below your current HCP 51.5.”
It was a powerful confirmation of just how much The Golf Brain Coach’s approach had elevated her game in just a few hours time.
In 2023 and 2024, Wiebeke Seymortier, from The Golf brain Coach, coached several sessions at the Days for Adaptive Golf, as organized by Golf Vlaanderen in Belgium.
The participating golfers shared enthusiastic feedback about her workshop on managing competition nerves at the first tee.
Adaptive golfers Senne, Liliane and Arwen explain how Wiebeke taught them practical tools to stay calm and focused when stepping onto the first tee.
